BreedloveDr. Breedlove

Dr. Breedlove began Coastal Vision as a solo practitioner in 1984. His plan was to develop a practice that cared first for the comfort and convenience of the patient, along with using the most technologically advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment available. He has never forgotten the personal aspect of being a doctor and the responsibilities that go along with his profession.

Dr. Breddlove is a proud graduate of First Colonial High School, Randolh-Macon College, and The Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.

He has made his reputation worldwide with his research in the science of Vision and Law Enforcement, where he has worked with police departments across North America, and lectured internationally on varied subjects concerning vision and shooting.

Presently, he is Chair of the Sports Vision Section of the American Optometric Association, the only professional organization dedicated to Vision and Sports.

Dr. Breedlove is a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach and presently lives there with his wife, Lee Ann, and their children, Jon and Shannon.

Dr. Jessica Lin

Dr. Jessica Y. Lin was born in Taiwan, but moved to Maryland at a young age. Originally from Rockville, Maryland, she attended Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland where she earned a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Jessica Lin earned her doctorate of optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2008, graduating third in her class. She has received numerous awards and scholarships during her years in graduate school and was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Lin was also a member of the National Optometric Student Association (NOSA) which promotes minorities in the optometric field and provides eye care awareness via events like school screenings. She recently moved to Virginia Beach to join the Coastal Vision family from a private practice in the western Virginia area.

Dr. Lin brings her extensive clinical knowledge and experience to the practice. She enjoys the fitting of both soft and rigid contact lenses, but her main interests are in the co-management of refractive and cataract surgeries and the treatment and management of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and ocular emergencies. Her specialty concentrates on dry eye syndrome and relief, ocular surface diseases, and the other visual disorders that can exacerbate ocular dryness such as computer vision syndrome and accommodative/vergence dysfunctions.

Dr. Lin has frequently lectured on visual and ocular disorders for community organizations, support groups at local hospitals, and local nursing homes. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association (VOA), and was the recent secretary/treasurer of the Shenandoah Valley Optometric Society (SVOS). She is also a volunteer member of the National Red Cross.

Dr. Lin resides in Virginia Beach with her fiancé and cat, Paxton. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and baking for friends and family. Although she loves cooking all types of food, baking is actually her favorite activity particularly because of her big sweet tooth. She also enjoys the beach and although she is slightly afraid of the water, she also loves being out on a boat fishing with her fiancé. Dr. Lin also loves to travel and hopes to visit more countries in the future.

Dr. Scott Nilsson

Dr. Scott Nilsson grew up in North Eastern Pennsylvania and went to undergraduate school at Mansfield University where he majored in biology with a minor in chemistry. In 2000 he moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where he performed pharmaceutical and genetic research for four years. He then returned to school at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) in Philadelphia to receive his Doctorate of Optometry where he graduated with academic and clinical honors. Dr. Scott joins Coastal Vision after moving from a private practice in central Virginia.

He is member of the American Optometric Association and its cornea and contact lens section as well as the Virginia Optometric Association. While attending PCO he was a member of the Student Optometric Service to Humanity (SOSH) group. He and fellow members went on a mission trip to Guatemala where they performed 1500 patient exams, provided prescription eyeglasses to 1100 of the patients, and paid for 50 cataract surgeries.

Dr. Scott performed a six month clinical rotation in ophthalmic disease in Havre De Grace, Maryland. It was there he was able to advance his skills in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, as well as retinal issues associated with diabetes and high blood pressure.

He also performed a cornea and specialty contact lens clinical rotation in Miami, Florida. During this rotation he trained with a doctor that was a specialist in the field of hard to fit contact lenses for diseases such as keratoconus and other diseases that affect the shape of the cornea. It was during this rotation that Dr. Scott developed his passion for fitting specialty contact lenses for astigmatism, presbyopia, and corneal disease.

Dr. Scott resides in Virginia Beach where he enjoys many outdoor activities. Fishing is his biggest passion. He prefers saltwater fishing to freshwater and hopes to one day have his own boat. He also enjoys golfing ever since he learned how to play on his high school golf team. He jokes that he may be able to improve your golf score if it is due to an old prescription but not if it’s because of a bad slice. Dr. Scott is also an avid cook and enjoys nights at home preparing a meal with his fiancée.
