Scott Nilsson, O.D. Dr. Nilsson joined Coastal Vision after moving from a private practice in central Virginia. He is member of the American Optometric Association as well as the Virginia Optometric Association. Dr. Nilsson performed a six month clinical rotation in ophthalmic disease in Havre De Grace, Maryland. It was there he was able to advance his skills in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, as well as retinal issues associated with diabetes and high blood pressure. He also performed a cornea and specialty contact lens clinical rotation in Miami, Florida. During this rotation he trained with a doctor that was a specialist in the field of hard to fit contact lenses for diseases such as keratoconus and other diseases that affect the shape of the cornea. It was during this rotation that Dr. Nilsson developed his passion for fitting specialty contact lenses for astigmatism, presbyopia, and corneal disease. Dr. Nilsson resides in Virginia Beach where he enjoys many outdoor activities. Saltwater fishing is his biggest passion and he hopes to one day be able to fish off his own boat. He also enjoys golfing ever since he learned how to play on his high school golf team. He jokes that he may be able to improve your golf score if it is due to an old prescription but not if it’s because of a bad slice. Dr. Nilsson is also an avid cook and enjoys nights at home preparing meals with his wife Dr. Lin.
